A Star Wars Boba Fett action figure toy has been sold at auction today for £18,000, exceeding its top estimate of £15,000. This particular Empire Strikes Back toy, made by Palitoy, was just one of 70 mint-on-card action figures auctioned by Vectis from a collection assembled by Mr. Craig Stevens, a former Chairman of the UK Star Wars Fan Club, who now wants to raise money for a larger home.

It was an internet bidder that spent £18,000 on the Palitoy Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars Boba Fett on 30B un-punched card; Mr. Stevens originally paid £50 for the toy. According to Vectis, it’s believed that this is the most expensive production Star Wars action figure ever sold at auction.

Altogether, the 70 items fetched £41,796, exceeding its estimated value of £22,710 to £32,950. Another auction is set to take place to sell the remainder of the collection Mr. Stevens’ has put up for sale.

Other lots that attracted high bids before going under-the-hammer included : Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi sold for £5,040 (estimate £2,000-£3,000); Darth Vader for £1800; R2-D2 for £1560; and a Return of the Jedi Boba Fett sold for £1440.

Not only has Mr. Stevens enjoyed a 36,000 per cent return on investment on a single three and three quarter inch plastic doll, the BBC describing his occupation tells us he toils as a “LEGO artist”.
